If you’ve been looking for a song that makes you want to flip a table and cry at the same time in the best possible way, REVERI3 has you covered. Today, we’re premiering the lead single, “Provider”, from their upcoming debut album — and it hits like a reckoning dressed up in a Sunday dress.
Comprised of Bailey McCowan, Stella Hopkins, and Will Fesmire, REVERI3 has been quietly building one of the most compelling sounds in the state’s heavy music scene since 2022. They bring heady blend of distorted guitars, classical piano, and ethereal vocals that somehow sounds both delicate and like it could level a building. Their previous EP, 3, earned them a devoted following for its unflinching explorations of longing and the suffocating weight of the male gaze. “Provider” picks up right where that left off, with no punches pulled.
This fresh track wraps a biting, sarcastic lyrical takedown of patriarchal expectation in a package that wouldn’t sound out of place on a 2003 Hot Topic playlist (and I say that with that full-throated nostalgia). McCowan’s voice alternates between pleading and furious, and the tension between those two modes is exactly the point.
“It has themes of traditional values, biblical themes, a ‘woman’s place,’” McCowan says of the song. “This woman is pleading to be so much more — she is angry, she is fed up, she is tired of being a cog in the machine.”
It’s a sentiment that’ll resonate with anyone who has ever butted their head against a system that wasn’t built with them in mind. Which, let’s be real, is most of us these days.
